Genius at Work: the “Top 3” Goals in Premier League History

“Several hundred thousand” fans recently voted on the greatest goals in the English Premier League’s 20-year history. Here are the top 3. Enjoy!

1. (26% of the votes) Wayne Rooney‘s unforgettable bicycle kick-winner vs. Man City in February of 2011. My gut tells me the multiple Shakespearean telenovela-esque dramas at play in this derby led to the number one vote for many, but it’s not to take away from a stunning strike.

2. (19% of the votes) Dennis Bergkamp vs. Newcastle in March of 2002. This is the winner for me. Pure, unbridled, untouchable genius. Can’t find the ball? Neither can the Newcastle defense.

3. (15% of the votes) Thierry Henry‘s brilliant flick and volley vs Manchester United in 2000. Ridiculous. Smooth as silk like the man himself.

  1. Unfortunately for the Premier League, they didn’t delay this poll for another week. Mr. Papiss Demba Cisse surely has to be considered for his exploits this week.

  2. This list is as if the Hull City ’99 season never happened and no one can remember the Stephen Hunt goal against the Wanderers.
